Plastic materials, rubber and elastomers commonly used in the wheels and casters industry are generally insulating and therefore non-conductive.



Therefore, they do not allow the static field that may be attached to the car or equipment to be directed to the ground.

Internal static can compromise the functionality of sensible electrical equipment carried in the car and potentially trigger explosions in compromised environments.

Therefore, rims and wheels made from these materials may not be suitable for potentially explosive areas and ESD sensitive environments.

Tellure Rôta offers customized wheels with modified electrical resistance to comply with the rules for ESD conductive electrical resistance applications, the specifications of which are shown on the next page.

Tellure Rôta recommends to thoroughly assess the end user's requirements and compare them with the characteristics of the wheel to avoid the risk of damage.

Since the electrical resistance can be changed by the conditions of the tread or the environment, we recommend checking the electrical resistance regularly (depending on the usage environment) not to exceed a period of 3 months.

The main reference standards for wheels and castors with special electrical resistance are:

ISO 22878:2004, which defines methods for measuring the electrical resistance of wheels;

ISO 22883:2004, which defines the range of electrical resistance;

IEC 61340-5-1:2007 covers general guidelines for the protection of electrical equipment against electrostatic phenomena.



Antistatic and conductive have different ohm cm 10^9 >antistatic. 10^4> conductive values
 
In some places, antistatic properties are sufficient, while conductive properties are required in chemical and explosive areas. If the wheels are antistatic or conductive, there may not be an electrical discharge if there is another insulating product in the system. This should be taken into consideration.
